New Kubernetes version (1.36) available for your SKE cluster

Section titled “New Kubernetes version (1.36) available for your SKE cluster”

We now support Kubernetes in the version 1.36.

For more feature and change details refer to the Kubernetes release page or official release notes.

The documentation how to manually apply minor or patch version updates can be found in the official STACKIT Kubernetes documentation. You can find additional information to our release process here.

Kubernetes v1.36 introduces features that are enabled by default and require containerd 2.0, which is currently not supported by SKE Ubuntu 22.04 nodes.

We are working on adding support for Ubuntu 26.04 images in SKE to enable newer versions of Kubernetes and containerd. Until then, please use Flatcar OS images in your cluster node pools to upgrade to Kubernetes version 1.36.

Note: This workaround only applies to clusters without GPU usage.

Our Help Center is always at your disposal if you have any questions.

New engines and new ADMIN role available at STACKIT Dremio

Section titled “New engines and new ADMIN role available at STACKIT Dremio”

Starting August 26, 2026, new engines are available to order on STACKIT Dremio. Furthermore, we are deprecating the custom CUSTOMER_ADMIN role.

New engines: Visit Compute resources for Dremio, to learn more about available flavors.

What this means for you: If you have Dremio instances with configured engines matching any of the criteria below, you need to migrate (or recreate) them with a valid engine size by August 26, 2026. Engines that fit the criteria below will stop working after that date.

    • Legacy engine types (engines without ‘STACKIT’ prefix)
    • STACKIT micro (4 GB RAM)
    • Any engine that isn’t present in Compute resources for Dremio will stop working.

New ADMIN role: Until now, all STACKIT Dremio instances were provisioned with a CUSTOMER_ADMIN role that allowed you to administer your instance. After this date, all configured users will be mirrored to the new ADMIN role and the existing CUSTOMER_ADMIN will be deleted automatically.

This change gives you better administrative control over your STACKIT Dremio instances compared to the deprecated CUSTOMER_ADMIN role.

What this means for you: If you reference this role in any of your workloads (automated or manual), you’ll need to change the reference either to the ADMIN role or create a dedicated role with the appropriate permissions.
